Here at Restless.Design creating content for our blog post series “Creatives We Love” is one of our favourite things to do. These posts are all about trail blazing creatives who inspire us, our last CWL post was about the wonderful Dorothy Draper.
Today’s daring designer is Vivienne Westwood, the British fashion designer largely responsible for bringing modern punk and new wave fashions into the mainstream. We adore her unconventional, outspoken style and approach to work. She’s definitely not one to shy away from the breaking the rules! Not only has she enjoyed a prolific career as a fashion designer spanning 50 years, Vivienne has also dipped her toes into the world of interiors.
London Hotel Suite, Los Angeles
Westwood was chosen to decorate this eclectic suite in the London Hotel based in LA. The living area which features the turquoise couches and edgy Brit style accessories is very reminiscent of Vivienne’s own collections. The white and gold detailed dining room is more classical but it oozes glamour and sophistication. This suite costs a mad $25,000 per night to stay in so we’ll admire it from afar!
Cole and Son Vivienne Westwood Collection
Back in 2009, Vivienne designed a range of wallpapers for Cole and Son. She commented that, “It is good when my ideas get carried over into other artistic media. This collection is a perfect opportunity to be able to work with a heritage company like Cole & Son and to see my ideas from fashion translated into the world of interiors and wallpaper.” Among the range featured her signature prints, squiggles and of course, the union Jack.
Vivienne Westwood and Cool Earth Table Cloths
In 2010, along with charity Cool Earth, Vivienne brought out a range of table cloths covered with bold, bright prints often with Westwood’s trademark political polemics emblazoned across. The hand signed cloths sold for £1,000 and each one saved nearly 17 acres of endangered Peruvian rainforest and 100% of the profits from the sale was donated to Cool Earth.
So not only is she a strong, stylish, endlessly creative visionary, she also gives a sh*t. What’s not to love.
